2014 VRBA Care Awards

The VRBA CARE Awards Gala was held last Friday at the very beautiful Fairmont Empress Hotel.  Members of the Victoria Residential Builders Association gathered in anticipation to hear the Gold winners out of the many amazing finalists nominated this year.

We are so pleased to announce that we have been awarded Gold in four categories.

1. Gold - Best Traditional Kitchen 225-500 sq.ft "Castleview"

Teaming up with Maximilian Huxley Construction, we converted an awkward kitchen and mudroom into a beautiful classic kitchen to suit the elegance of this 1922 house.  The maple stained wood island showcases a custom motif designed by Mari O'Meara.

"This kitchen needed something special and unique which it lacked when we were shown the space.  The house itself is such a beautiful gem with fine details and millwork original to the house that the kitchen needed to make just as much of an impression."                  - Mari O'Meara BA BID

The challenge we faced with the Amphora bathroom was the lack of space.  We wanted to ensure that a sense of luxury was not only achieved by the finishes selected, but also by making sure that the space was not overcrowded.  In the end, by adding a new window and finding the right proportions to the size of the room, we were able to create an award winning Master Ensuite.

This waterfront condo had so many attributes: from large spacious rooms to panoramic views.  We strived to ensure that any of the new elements introduced would not take away from the breathtaking view.  The palette was kept neutral and inspired by the existing travertine fireplace.

We had the pleasure of working with Coast Prestige Homes and Thomas Philips Woodworking who transformed our vision to reality.

A Seaside Gem

When we met with the owner of this 1970's condo, we were immediately taken aback by the spectacular panoramic view.  It isn't often that we get the chance to stand in a space which literally sits on the edge of the water.

Despite it's age, the unit certainly had some beautiful perks.  High ceilings, ample storage, and a floor to ceiling vein cut Travertine wood burning fireplace!

With an amazing client, this project became a designer's dream situation with the opportunity to transform the space with the sole motive of making it look nicer than what it was.  Light, bright and beautiful.

Even though this condo had high ceilings and large windows, the view could only be truly enjoyed from the living room and master bedroom.  With a galley kitchen tucked in behind a demising wall, we decided to do what all Designers are cliched to say "Let's take that wall down!", so we did  just that.   By removing this one wall we are now able to see the view from the moment the front door opens.

We had the pleasure of working with Chris Clark of Coast Prestige Homes Ltd, who was able to transform our vision to reality.  He and his team collaborated with Thomas Phillips Woodworking,  Allied Power, Munro Plumbing and Gas, Island Flooring Centre, and Versa Tile in what became one of the most enjoyable transformations this year!

In the kitchen, custom v-groove white oak cabinets, which were perfected through a vigorous process were balanced with clean, off-white slab upper cabinets.  Clean 2-1/2" built-up quartz top by FloForm spanned an impressive 14 foot island.  To minimize grout on the backsplash, we featured the new Fiandre Slab provided by Beyond Surfaces (A division of StoneAge Marble and Stone).

We sacrificed one of 6 closets and converted it into a message centre.

This was truly a thrilling transformation we were so happy to be a part of.  Thank you to our wonderful client and amazing construction team who made this all happen so smoothly!  We are so lucky to have had this opportunity!
